Hey I have a question if anyone wants to answer it for me. I'm 17 years old and I've always loved large dogs. Alaskan and Siberian huskies particularly, and I've also been very intrigued and drawn to wolves. If sometime in the near future, I wanted to own a husky and/or a wolf, would it be a good idea to breed these two? I don't mean for my sake, because I know what comes along with being an owner of a wolfdog, but I mean for the sake of the dog's health, well being, happiness, and overall quality of life. And why or why not? If it would be a good idea, what breed of husky and what breed of wolf would I want? Would breeding two purebreds be the best option? I would want my dog to be as healthy, and happy as possible, with zero negative breeding effects such as joint problems & etc, if possible. Thanks for any help! :) (Feel free to send me any websites that explain this for me)

"they are over all stubborn and Independent"
LOL! Yeah they definitely are those things. My Huskies are independent, but when it comes to stubbornness, they are no-where close to my Shiba. He takes 'stubborn' to a whole new level that I have never seen before. :D
I also like the look of Australian Cattle Dogs. How are they like energy wise compared to Siberian Huskies?

I like Shibas and Huskys, but I would never get one of those dogs, unless I met him and saw how he behaved and how he trains, I like all dogs the same and every dog has its own personality but they are over all stubborn and Independent, sometimes its good, but other times its bad. I prefer Australian Cattle Dogs because they are beutiful, smart and not so independent that they are stubborn(at least not my A.C.D)

Oh, he was talking about roach-backs? That's a whole other can of worms. :P I agree that exaggerating a standard to stand out in a line is not responsible breeding, but it's inevitable in something like confirmation. German Shepherds are probably the biggest victim of it. Hence why I would never buy a working dog from show lines!
Thank you for the clarification.

Hi Shiba! I read this hub carefully ... just looking for tips. What works on dogs should work on cats as well, right?
Although I am not a cat breeder as such, just a cat liker, I thought it would be a good idea to "know it all!"
Qualifying ... !

Hello Gofygure,
I think Cody was referring to the differences between work-line and show-line Germain Shepherds.
<a href="http://www.extremedogsport.com/german_vs_north_american.htm" rel="nofollow ugc">http://www.extremedogsport.com/german_vs_north_ame</a>
I am not an expert in such matters, but as I understand it, some fans of the breed feel that the extreme back-slope that has been bred into show-line German Shepherds, may have a negative effect on their work ability and general health.
More generally though, I think Cody brings up an interesting point which is that purebred conformation shows place a great emphasis on a certain appearance. Sometimes, the breed standard emphasizes work ability and health, but not always.
As a result, while trying to win competition points, some 'responsible' breeders may overly prioritize the "breed standard appearance" over the health and temperament of their dogs.
