WordPress Custom Backgrounds 1.1

by ShibaShake Leave a Comment

The Shiba Custom Background Plugin lets you customize virtually any WordPress theme by adding in your own background images and colors right from your WordPress Dashboard. You may create as many backgrounds as you want, and assign them to posts, categories, or to your entire blog.

This blog post, for example, uses the Custom Background plugin on the default Kubrick theme.

Here are more custom background examples –

  • Example Thematic background.
  • Example Twenty Ten background.

Shiba Custom Background New Features –

1. Remove Background Image Option

The remove background image option lets you specify whether you want to remove background images from your original theme. For example, the screen-shot below shows that we have created a test background.

Test background object.

Here are the results of the test background above with and without background image removal.

  • The first image shows the default Kubrick theme with no backgrounds applied.
  • The second image shows the default Kubrick theme with the above test background applied. No background image removal.
  • The third image shows the default Kubrick theme with the above test background applied. WITH background image removal.

Note that when the background images are not removed, none of the background colors show through because the default Kubrick theme fully covers the entire background space with tiled images.

2. Ignore DIV Option

The Ignore DIV option allows you to skip over certain divs so that they maintain their original theme colors and background images.

In the example above, we may want to keep the Kubrick Theme header. The theme header is defined in the #header div, which we will add to our ignore div list –

As a result, the header image is left untouched.

We may further enhance our blog background by adding images to our test background object.

3. Other Custom Background Additions

  • Added class wrappers around all plugin functions.
  • Fixed several bugs that caused background colors to revert back to their theme defaults.
  • Modularized plugin components so that it is now cleaner and more secure.
